A Life Lesson From a Lyft Driver

Something Every Kingdom Creative Should Never Forget

After a long, dark flight home a few weeks ago I was greeted by a cheerful Lyft driver.

He was from Uganda and had a thick accent. Even with his thick accent I could not escape the remarkable joy that he carried.

I began asking him questions, asking him about his time in the states, and just getting to know him.

He went on and on about how he is here studying to become a nurse.

When I asked him why he chose nursing, he told me something that I will never forget.

“When I was a boy…my mother died giving birth to my younger brother.

They both died.

They died because there was no one around to help.

No medical people.

Now, my calling is to help… and not let someone else lose their mother or brother when things go wrong.

That is
why I am going to become a nurse. That is why I am here.”

He’s not chasing a career. He’s not chasing a paycheck.

He is chasing a calling.

He has something that few have in our western culture.

He has a “WHY!”

As kingdom creatives, we will never make the impact we are able to make without first discovering our WHY, and aiming our lives at it once we find it.

Everyone’s WHY is different.

Finds yours!

For Glory & Beauty,
