How to find your niche

How do you become the go-to solution for what you do, and multiply your earning power as a creative pro?

I’ll show you.

First of all, creative professionals are living in a paradox right now…

On one hand, there’s never been a better time to be a creative pro. There has never been a higher demand for creative work than there is RIGHT now. However, it’s also never been easier to blend in, be a commodity, and find someone who can do what you do, but for cheaper. Creative services can be sourced from all over the world at lower costs. For example, if you tell me what creative service you provide, I can find someone offering it for cheaper, and I can find them in less than an hour.

This is called “commoditization.”

If there’s one thing that keeps creative professionals from multiplying their value in the marketplace it’s this one word.

Niching is all about De-commoditizing yourself as a creative pro, and this is hard to do. If you can de-commoditize yourself successfully in your career, you’ll not only add more value to who you’re working for, but more money to your pocket as well.

Finding and owning a niche is crucial for creative professionals for this very reason. It might seem challenging, but picking an industry, an industry vertical, and an area of expertise that matches your skills can significantly reduce your risk of becoming a commodity.

If you become the best at what you do in a specific industry or area, you lower the risk of being perceived as a commodity.

If your plan is to be an employee somewhere forever, your need to niche is less important, but this is still a vital concept to know, and most definitely the first step you need to take if you plan to have a creative services business, freelance, or be a solopreneur that’s still around 2-3 years from now.

Sadly, the data says you won’t be.

Unless you find your niche.
